Temporary Housing post Hurricane Harvey in Houston
For those needing temporary housing after the hurricane, HAR on Sept. 6 rolled out a new tool on its website, HAR.com, that allows Realtors, property owners and property managers to list homes and rental units that can be used by Harvey evacuees for temporary housing.HAR's portal — http://www.har.com/temporaryhousing/— features temporary housing in Houston, Victoria, Beaumont and along the Gulf Coast. Some of these properties may be available for free or for a reduced rent.Airbnb last week activated its disaster response program in the Houston area.
The San Francisco-based online home-sharing company launched an online portal — https://www.airbnb.com/disaster/hurricaneharveyeva...— for Harvey evacuees seeking urgent accommodations. Families across Texas and Louisiana have offered more than 1,000 homes for free to Harvey evacuees. In addition, Airbnb is waiving all service fees for Harvey evacuees checking into an Airbnb listing between now and Sept. 25.
RentCafé, a national apartment search company, has also created a online housing registry — https://www.rentcafe.com/hurricaneharvey— where Harvey evacuees can find temporary housing. Apartment owners and property managers with available units to rent can list their proeprties on the platform. RentCafé is waiving fees for housing providers and Harvey evacuees to use the website.Yardi — RentCafé's research arm — has also launched a hotline that Harvey evacuees can call for housing assistance. The toll-free number is (844) 363-6317.
